GOD’S MASTER DOABLES AS DEFINED IN THE BEATITUDES (Matthew 5:3-11)

November 13, 2019 –

In the Beatitudes, Jesus further amplified and explained the Master Doables of a Christian. Both the Ten Commandments and The Beatitudes reveal how to work toward the strategic ends of loving God and neighbor.

MASTER STRATEGY 1: LOVE GOD (the Essence of Faith)

Master Doables:

  1. Come to God with empty hands. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (v. 3)
  2. Agonize over sin. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (v. 4)
  3. Be God-controlled. “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.” (v. 5)
  4. Long for a deeper relationship with God. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (v. 6)

MASTER STRATEGY 2: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR (Faith in Action)

Master Doables:

  1. Be eager to help those in need. “Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.” (v. 7)
  2. Have pure motives. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (v. 8)
  3. Place reconciliation above personal rights. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (v. 9)

4.     Expect to be misunderstood. “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me.” (v. 10)
