You can buy a Zippo lighter from Walmart, Amazon, and many other outlets. And at garage sales. At one of my garage sales, a buyer asked if I had any old cigarette lighters. No, but I have one stored away somewhere.
I had put it away somewhere, but where?
After a week of searching, I found the Zippo in a shoebox in the back of my rented storage locker. Though over 50 years old, the lighter still looks new. I don’t know where it came from or the original owner’s name.
The company has produced over 400,000,000 Zippo lighters since 1933. The lighter quickly became prominent during World War II.
The Guinness Book of World Records estimated that more than 5 billion copies of the Bible had been printed.
While Christians are not to be compared to Zippo lighters, they are to be light. Jesus said to his followers, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” (Matthew 5:14,15, HCBS)
The Zippo lighter has one easily recognized sound — it clicks. The Bible has one easily recognized voice—God’s.
