Business owners say investing in practical employee training and development helps achieve both short and long goals. By engaging in training and development, the organization, the employees, and the customer benefits.

Jesus emphasized training and development. He recruited 12 individuals and invited them to become fishers of men. Jesus’ training outline was four easy-to-follow steps. First, He set the example. Second, He gave how-to instructions. Third, He tested the disciples, and Fourth, He followed up with an after-action review.

In secular school, people learn to read, write, and do arithmetic. In Bible school, we learn to read, understand, and apply God’s Word. But, we don’t study, teach, train, and share the Bible as the Bible commanded. St. Paul writes, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Tim. 2:15, NKJV).

Time has passed since I saw the job description for Minister of Education, Director of Education, or a church building referred to as the educational building. It is a Life Center. Sunday school is now life groups, and there is no Sunday night program called Training Union. Today, the emphasis is on execution — not training.

I think the quality of school education and Bible education has deteriorated. While school education prepares you for world success, Bible study prepares you for Heaven.
