The Theory of Thin Slices of Life

September 9, 2021 –

I recently read a book by Malcolm Gladwell called “Blink” … It’s about the theory of thin slices and how a little bit of knowledge goes a long way.

How much do you think can be learned from reading the Bible? I suspect that most of us would say there are many instructions for living a joyful life. But many instructions are not necessarily helpful. As Gladwell points out in his book, we learn a lot in thin slices of life or in a blink of an eye.

For Christians, John 3:16 is perhaps the most crucial verse in the Bible. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The verse contains only 16 words; the verse is a scriptural “slice of life.”  Christ is salvation, and those who believe in Christ are saved.
