The Eagle

July 15, 2020 –

“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, HCSB)

Eagles are some of the largest birds. They are at the top of the Avian food chain, with some species feeding on big prey like monkeys and sloths. Eagles have incredible eyesight and can detect prey up to two miles away.

To say a person has an eagle eye, you mean they are observing someone or something. For example, children know their parents have eagle eyes and notice everything; they can’t get away with anything.

God has incredible eyesight, and from heaven, He sees our every move.

In 1905 lyricist Civilla D. Martin and composer Charles H. Gabriel wrote a Gospel hymn, confirming God has more exceptional eyesight than the eagle and humanity.

His Eye Is on the Sparrow

  1. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
    Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
    When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
    • Refrain:
      I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
      For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  2. “Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
    And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
    Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  3. Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
    When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
    I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
