There have always been stories of prayer because that is how we talk to God. Of all the prayers, the most famous is The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus taught His disciples how they should pray. Beginning with, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” (Matthew 6:9).
The second best-known prayer is The Prayer of Jabez. Since its release in 2000, The Prayer of Jabez has sold over nine million copies. It became an international bestseller, topping the New York Times bestseller list. One reason for the success of this book is that, in one verse in the Old Testament, it gives four essential points on how a godly man should pray.
The prayer is simple: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain. So, God granted him what he requested.” (1 Chronicles 4:10, HCSB)
We remember Jabez for his prayer rather than a heroic act. He asks God to.
