What does it mean for Christians to meditate? It means we do more than just read the Bible; we think, reflect, contemplate, and let its truths guide our actions. According to God, He says about meditation.
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” (Psalms 1 and 2)
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (Joshua 1:8)
The secret to happiness may be a time of meditation each day. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you meditate on God’s word daily.
- Choose a time and place to meditate on the Word of God.
- Pray for understanding.
- Pick a chapter. Read each verse slowly.
- What stands out?
- Write your thoughts down.
- Determine how to apply these thoughts in your life.
The key to success is reflecting on the Bible and carefully following what you read. Marcus Aurelius is quoted as having said, “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars and see yourself running with them … The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts (meditations).”
