IT’S WAKE-UP TIME FOR CHRISTIANS

November 17, 2021 –

As a young boy, one thing I did was fill a Mason jar with dirt and then look for some ants, bull ants specifically. I’d place the ants in the jar and then shake it up, causing the ants to scatter throughout the dirt-filled jar.

The goal was to watch the ants dig tunnels to get to the surface. As I looked through the glass jar, I saw the ants furiously digging their tunnels. I don’t recall any ants dying from suffocation; they dug their way out.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary on my desk offers this definition of lazy: “disinclined to activity or exertion: not energetic.” The lazy church member tries to avoid church ministries.

The Bible speaks of ants. “Go to the ant, you slacker! Observe its ways and become wise. Without leader administrator, or ruler, it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food during harvest.” (Proverbs 6:8, HCSB)

Excuses lazy church members offer to avoid church ministries.

“Let someone else do it.”

“That’s not my job.”

“I’m not trained to do that.”

“No.”

It’s worth noting, Christians have over 2,000 years of history to hone their skills, and many are still lazy. Ants have a 140-million-year history of being industrious. Even the ants outperform many Christians.
